Emission Reduction Carbon Standards

The VCS Program is the world’s most widely used voluntary GHG program. Almost 1500 certified VCS projects have collectively reduced or removed more than 200 million tonnes of carbon and other GHG emissions from the atmosphere.

Learn more about the VCS Program on the Verra website

The SOCIALCARBON® Standard was developed to strengthen co-benefits of carbon offset projects and enhance an active participation of stakeholders. It is typically adopted in conjunction with a carbon accounting standard, such as the VCS.

Using SOCIALCARBON®:

  1. Ensures the project’s contribution to sustainable development.

  2.  Improves social and environmental benefits of the project.

  3. Promotes project differentiation in the market, adding value to generated credits.

Agrocortex REDD Project

BRAZIL

"Beyond the project’s ecological and carbon benefits, a proportion of the carbon credits generated will be dedicated to improving the social and environmental conditions in the project region, specifically contributing to improving deforestation control, and developing environmental education and other social activities. The contribution to sustainability is being monitored through the application of the SOCIALCARBON® Standard, which is based on six main indicators: Biodiversity; Natural; Financial; Human; Social and Carbon Resources."
